The Photo Tech

July 16, 2006

Do you often find blurred or smeared objects in your pictures? The trees or hills or buildings in the foreground and background are in focus, but you have an out of focus object somewhere in your photo?

This could be due to your shutter speed. If you are using a simple point and shoot camera, you really have no way of adjusting your shutter speed unless you use a faster speed of film such as 400 or 800 iso. But, with an slr you can adjust your shutter speed in camera by using the shutter speed priority mode (which will automatically set your aperature for you). You can also use your slr in manual mode and set your shutter speed as well as your aperature. If you use a faster shutter speed (160th or 180th of a second) you will "freeze" faster moving objects.

Tip of The Month:

It's always a good idea to use a tripod, but with a faster shutter speed, it is much easier to "handhold" your camera and maintain "in focus" photographs.
